Jorge Gonzalez

Since being born in Columbia on the 11th July 1968, Jorge has become a US Citizen and is now a PRO Referee for the US Soccer Federation.

I got into officiating by being an emergency Referee in my church tournament. The biggest challenge I faced was trying to balance work, family and soccer.

I have been a National Referee since 2005.  My role in PRO is a referee.

My professional debut was May 13, 2006 Columbus Crew VS Colorado Rapids at the Columbus Stadium. Highlights of my career include:

  • Oct 28, 2006 I officiated a Semi-Final Chivas USA VS Houston in Los Angeles.
  • 2008, I officiated a quarter final Sporting KC VS Columbus and in
  • Nov 2009, I officiated a Semi-Final game Houston VS Seattle.
  • 2010, I officiated a first round playoffs Real Salt Lake VS FC Dallas and also the Eastern Conference Final Colorado Rapids VS San Jose.
  • 2011, I officiated the first ever Wild Card in the MLS Colorado Rapids VS Columbus Crew and also officiated the Western Conference Championship LA Galaxy VS Real Salt Lake.
  • I been involved in the last three MLS All-Stars: July 2010, I was the Referee MLS All-Stars VS Manchester United.
2011 and 2012 I was the fourth official in the All-Stars.

I have been Involved in numerous International friendly matches, Inter-League, Super-League and National Teams such as Colombia VS Honduras.

My biggest influence in my career was Gino Dipolitto. He saw me at a Caribbean Cup game in tThe Bronx and he saw potential in me. Gino had a great career and was a great mentor and a friend in my career.

My highlight of my career is being able to officiate a game like it was my last game.

My advice to an aspiring official is to have their priority straight.  An aspiring official should be able to balance school, family and work, also to set realistic goals and most important to be passionate about officiating.
